Organon
Melodies by and for Theodorakis
Arranged and played by
Henning Schmiedt
“Theodorakis on the organ. This is something new: melodies by and for Mikis Theodorakis, played on an organ. Edited by one of the musicians who have been familiar for years with the composer himself and his work. Henning Schmiedt is a pianist, composer and arranger. And he is equally in demand as a gifted musical stage partner for many stars such as Maria Farantouri, Zülfü Livaneli, Milva, Maria Del Mar Bonet, Lauren Newton, Petros Pandis, Sema, Jocelyn B. Smith and many others. In addition to numerous works of his own (his “Requiem” was first performed in 2007 in the Kulturkirche St. Stephani in Bremen), he wrote many arrangements and orchestrations for the pieces of many composers. So he wrote jointly with Jens Naumilkat an instrumentation of the Canto General, the “Great Song” by Mikis Theodorakis / Pablo Neruda for symphony orchestra.
Henning Schmiedt has always a very good feel for “the right tone,” apart from the very sensitive sense of tact. In the Kulturkirche St. Stephani he plays the Beckerath organ, which is in craft, technical or aurally known as one of the best organs in northern Germany. Look forward to an exciting dialogue . “Kantor Tim Gunther-Chief of the Kulturkirche St. Stephani in Bremen on the occasion of the premiere of this program
